Hosta 'Red Cadet' forms a small mound of 8"-10 tall with a spread of about 14" at maturity. A deciduous perennial with reddish-purple stems bearing large, narrowly heart-shaped, pointed, veined, blue to grey-green leaves and upright scapes bearing racemes of bell-shaped, pale lavender flowers on 14" scapes, in summer. It is quite a vigorous grower so will be great for mass planting at the front of borders. It emerges in the spring, with gently folded, blue-green foliage lightly waved and develops slight puckering with maturity. The white backed foliage is held on intense, red, spotted petioles. Excellent slug resistance and good sun tolerance.
