About
After many years as a qualified professional horticulturist and avid plantsman, an unfortunate accident meant early retirement and a premature end to my career. I decided I needed a focus for my horticulture appetite and interest , that was easy to manage and due to restricted space ,could be grown in pots .
Then I found Hosta’s and the bug well and truly bit , miniature Hosta’s met the criteria exactly.
I was hooked , so the wonderful world of the mini Hosta’s drew me in and a passion was well and truly lit . I had found what I was looking for as a plant group and a hobby of specific plant collection.
The interest was further tweaked once I researched Mouse type Hosta’s , but all minis are of interest and nothing is off limits, with an endless list of varieties to choose from. Yet another attraction for this group of plants can hold for a plant collector.
These little gems of the plant world are as glorious and varied as their larger spectacular cousins the larger Hosta’s varieties commonly seen in many gardens and planting schemes. This was the start of a fascinating hobby for a plantsman like me and an obsession that will continue to grow over time as knowledge and experience is gained and learnt from other like minded collectors and growers .
I firstly joined the BHHS after a recommendation from a specialist Hosta nursery ,which has proved a great wealth of knowledge to a newbie like me, easy to access and crammed with a mass of useful information it’s proved to be one of the best £20 I have spent and great value for money.
Next although not really into social media I joined various Facebook groups to be in touch with like-minded Hostaholics far and wide and this has proved very useful entertaining and educational .
