Due to the cessation of the AHGA Hosta of the year, which has been replaced by the American Hosta Society Hosta of the Year. They have decided align their new criteria as quickly as possible the AHS have just announced both 2026 & 2027 winners. Therefore we now know that the AHS Hosta of the Year 2027, has been awarded to Hosta Clear Fork River Valley. We featured Hosta Halycon AHS Hosta of the Year 2026 in last weeks blog.

Hosta Clear Fork River Valley was first registered in 2007, by Van Wade. A cross between Hosta Puckered Giant and Hosta Woodland Blue.
Hosta Clear Fork River Valley is ranked as one of the best for intense corrugation and dark green foliage.
Van Wade (1930-2017) was owner of the Wade and Gatton Nursery and Wade Botanical Garden in Bellville, Ohio. The nursery display gardens (recently designated the Wade Botanical Garden) are the largest single Hosta collection in the world with over 3,200 different types. Van Wade was an active hybridiser for decades and has 86 registered Hostas to his name.

A large sized Hosta growing to 70cm to 80cm in height with a mature spread of up to 140cm.
It has a large, nearly oval, very deep blue-green leaves. One of the Hostas, with the most puckered of leaves.

Leaves are very puckered between veins and puckers are highly humped. Convexly cupped, somewhat unruly and has thick substance. Slug resistant and sun tolerant.

Stunning, almost pure white, flowers are held aloft on relatively short, green scapes, during June & July, of about 80cm in height. A wonderful contrast between the almost white flowers and the rich green foliage

Hosta Clear Fork River Valley has received recognition from the American Hosta Society with the Distinguished Merit Hosta award 2023, and awarded the American Hosta Society Hosta of the Year 2027, having been awarded the Benedict Garden Performance Award for 2024.
