Hosta Captain Kirk forms a medium to large mound, reaching a height of 50cm-60cm and spreading up to 90cm at maturity. It is a notable Hosta with a rapid growth rate. The plant develops an overlapping mound of widely oval, slightly arching, dimpled, and strongly veined leaves. These leaves are broadly margined with bright green, initially emerging chartreuse before transitioning to golden yellow and then ivory. Hosta Captain Kirk is one of the many Star Trek varieties and serves as an improved version of Hosta Gold Standard, featuring much wider dark green margins, gold centres, and thicker leaves. Pale lavender flowers bloom on 75cm scapes in July and August. The variety is resistant to slugs and highly tolerant of sunlight. Hosta Captain Kirk has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
