Hosta X Ray will form a spiky mound of just about 10"-12" in height, with a spread of up to 18", at maturity.  It produces a low, dense mound of narrow, heavily rippled foliage that is beautifully variegated early in the growing season. Narrow, streaked greenish-white leaves with a medium green margin, becoming all green by summers end.  Bright purple flowers open in August on 20" ivory coloured scapes that have purple dots on variegated leafy bracts. Makes a lovely clump by the time it is established. It is quite a slow grower so you need to be patient. If you give it a little sun the leaves become even more elongated and rippled. It is a little sun tolerant but not slug resistant.
