Warning be aware of AI-generated or fake photos online that show impossible, neon-coloured Hostas. Ensure you always purchase from reputable nurseries.

It’s been about 2 years since we last discussed AI generate photos and if anything, it seems to have got worse, not better. I thought maybe it was just a phase and everyone would get wise to it, but no, sadly many people are still spending their hard earned cash on these products

Time to remind everyone about the issue and send out even more warnings.

Companies are generating AI photos of Hostas and putting them on social media and other places to encourage Hosta lovers to buy their product by offering a fantastically coloured picture, that quite frankly are not possible, but are still turning heads.

We get so many people that are asking questions about the pictures and some that have bought the seeds or so-called bulbs or rhizomes and don’t know what to do.

It is not surprising that so many people fall for these, they are very convincing, but the colours and combinations they are offering simply don’t exist.

The internet is absolutely drowning with these fake photos, and the providers are doing nothing about it. This is now an epidemic, and there seems to be no cure. They are going to carry on bombarding us with fake photos.

This blog is to make more Hosta Lovers aware of what is happening. They are not the real deal.

We know that businesses will continue to produce these AI images as long as people continue to buy the products. The only way to stop them is to stop buying these fake products.

Let’s have a look at some examples of what they are offering and why you should treat them like poison.

There are some magnificent looking Hostas to tempt you in all guises from pale blue & white to pinks and oranges, even butterfly shaped leaves & flowers. Now they are producing videos as well as photos. This year I have even seen some with snow on them. Really? Hostas have died back long before any snowfall. Is anyone convinced? Clearly this is still YES!

These fakes are all over e commerce websites such as E Bay, Etsy, Amazon, Temu & multiple seed companies. You cannot miss them.

They encourage you to buy their seeds, bulbs, or rhizomes that will make the wonderful Hosta seen in these photos.

Hosta seeds do not come true to type. They do not look like the parent plant (which of course doesn’t exist). The seeds could be anything from any plant, not just Hostas.
