Guess What ? ...... Today Is Our 5th Birthday

On Friday 8th May 2026, we are very proud to celebrate Rewela Hostas 5th Birthday. It only seems like yesterday, but we have made great progress in the business. Indeed, this is a passionate hobby turned into a thriving business.
There have been many challenges as well as rewards that we have learned from, and we appreciate all the help we have had over the years.
How it all started
It all started 16 yrs ago, when we opened our garden in North Yorkshire for the National Garden Scheme. We had many visitors to the garden, who wanted plants to buy while they were here. We started selling plants on the open days and other group visits. This evolved over the years averaging over 350 visitors for each of the two days we were open.
In 2020 the UK was gripped in the Covid 19 pandemic that reduced our visitors to the garden to zero. So, we started selling Hostas on Facebook, as a way to keep moving forward.
In March 2021, both myself & Daphne decided to retire and turn our Hosta selling hobby into a business. Daphne built a website designed to continue selling our Hostas, but to be both informative & interactional. www.rewelahostas.com
We have enhanced the website with regular Friday blogs on a whole range of Hostas related subjects, created and issue a monthly newsletter as well as a mid-monthly one. It’s been hard work, but through it all, we have remained committed to our initial mission.
5 years ago, we offered about 100 different Hosta varieties for our customers. It became quickly evident that this was not enough. Hosta lovers are always looking for that ‘new’ variety, that they haven’t got. They want to see new Hostas every year.
Over the past 5 years we have expanded our choice of Hostas to make more choice available to customers. So much so that we now have some 960 varieties in stock, with over 500 of those varieties available for sale at any point.
During this time, we have built great relationships with suppliers and hybridisers. Indeed, both our supplier, Fransen Hostas and a world-renowned hybridiser, Hans Hansen are writing guest articles for us. In depth information from the heart of the expert in their field.
It was important that we were able to have a website that was easy to navigate and gave as much information as possible, as we could, and people could see what they wanted, and buy it online straight away. Our website was further developed, adding extra bits for the benefit of customers, based on valuable feedback by customers. Our customers help us develop the website by expressing their valuable opinions.
None of this would have been possible without your support. Whether you have been with since the start or recently joined our lovely community, we are very grateful for your trust and loyalty.

We strive to take our customer from viewing, to buying with as much ease as possible, and then offer a choice of postage service of next day delivery or in 2-3 days.
If the variety you want is on the website is available, you can buy it. You can have it in your garden within a few days. You do not need to wait weeks or send cheques and emails. It’s yours today.
All of our Hostas are grown in pots on the nursery and are then sent out bare root to the customer. https://www.rewelahostas.com/delivery-details These are sent out 52 weeks a year. The only time we don't dispatch is when the Post Office doesn't deliver, such as Christmas and Bank Holidays. The website is always open, 24/7, 365 days a year.
Whilst it’s lovely to have a wonderful website, you can’t beat the personal touch. We love having people visiting the nursery.
Anyone can visit the nursery by making an appointment. It’s not just for groups. It will be lovely to see you. We just love showing people around and answering any questions.
That way, we get to meet and greet some amazing people who also love Hostas. We look forward to being asked the strangest questions. We are happy to assist in any way, and fill in any gaps they might have on varieties, or cultivation or any subject concerning Hostas.
Make it a personal occasion and have us all to yourselves. We are quite nice, really!

Visits to view the garden, rather than the nursery to buy Hostas are also by appointment and are for groups of 10 or more, and with these visits, we provide refreshments.
