Hosta Permafrost forms a small to medium-sized mound, reaching approximately 36cm-40cm in height with a spread of up to 100cm at maturity. This variety is a sport of Hosta First Frost, distinguished by its wider margins. In spring, it features blue leaves with wide, bright gold margins that are particularly striking. During the summer, the leaves transition to a blue-green hue while the margins fade to cream. Pale lavender flowers emerge in summer on scapes that can reach heights of up to 75cm. The leaves, which are heart-shaped and of solid substance, exhibit resistance to slugs.
