Hosta Fragrant King will form a substantial mound of 60cm-65cm in height, with a spread of up to 105cm at maturity. This cultivar, introduced in 2003 by Jan van den Top of Holland, is a sport of Hosta Fried Green Tomatoes and features dark green leaves with a wide creamy-white border. Early in the season, the leaves are covered with a "bloom" and exhibit great substance. It is a vigorous grower that produces large fragrant lavender flowers on 90cm scapes late in the season, typically around August. The plant forms attractive dense mounds of bright green leaves that are broadly oval with parallel veins and have a lightly quilted surface. It is considered one of the best fragrant Hostas available. The flowers, which open in the evening, are among the largest within the Hosta genus and are particularly striking. Additionally, this plant is sun tolerant and resistant to slugs.
