The Hosta Cup of Joy forms a medium-sized mound, reaching a height of 30 cm to 45 cm and spreading up to 60 cm at maturity. This strong, cupped green variety is a seedling of Hosta Abiqua Drinking Gourd, though it is somewhat smaller. It retains the desirable characteristics of its parent, with attractively cupped and corrugated leaves that develop a pleasing golden yellow hue. Initially emerging as chartreuse, the leaves brighten as the season progresses and maintain their appearance well into the season. The plant can tolerate some sunlight without burning. Nearly white flowers appear on scapes up to 70 cm in height from July to August. The Hosta Cup of Joy is both slug resistant and sun tolerant, making it an excellent addition to any garden.
