Hosta Halcyon is a small to medium-sized plant, reaching a height of 30cm-45cm and a spread of up to 90cm at maturity. It is considered one of the best blue Hosta cultivars available. This cultivar is an excellent addition to a shade garden, forming an attractive, medium-sized, dense mound of smooth, flat, spear-shaped, thick-textured, intense blue leaves. Halcyon retains its striking blue leaf colour well into late summer when provided with adequate light and dappled shade. Although Halcyon grows slowly and may take several years to reach full maturity, it is primarily cultivated for its beautiful blue foliage. In midsummer, bell-shaped dark lavender blooms appear on mauve-grey scapes that can reach up to 70cm in height. This variety is known for its good pest resistance and considerable tolerance to sunlight. Hosta Halcyon has received recognition from the American Hosta Society with the Distinguished Merit Hosta award 2024, and from the Royal Horticultural Society with the Award of Garden Merit.
